Therapeutic Massage & Manual Services in Anchorage, Alaska

FAQ – Massage & Insurance at Arctic Dawn

Frequently Asked Questions – Massage Therapy & Insurance Info | Arctic Dawn Anchorage

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?

No. Appointments may be scheduled without a referral.

However, many insurance plans require a referral from a physician or other qualified provider in order to bill for therapeutic services. Required referrals typically include a diagnosis code and may specify frequency and duration of care. Referral requirements must be met prior to billing insurance.

Do you bill insurance?

Yes. Arctic Dawn bills insurance for therapeutic manual therapy.

Arctic Dawn participates with Whole Health Living / TriWest Healthcare Alliance Community Care. For all other insurance plans, services are billed on an out-of-network basis.

What does “out-of-network” mean?

Out-of-network means Arctic Dawn does not have a direct contract with most insurance carriers. Insurance plans may still offer out-of-network benefits, but reimbursement amounts, timelines, and patient responsibility vary by plan.

Benefits are verified when possible, but payment decisions are made by the insurance carrier.

What happens if insurance does not pay, or does not pay in full?

Insurance reimbursement is not guaranteed. Any portion not paid by insurance is the responsibility of the client.

For out-of-network services, documentation may be provided to support client-submitted reimbursement when applicable.

Can I choose self-pay even if I have insurance?

Yes. Self-pay options are always available and may be selected regardless of insurance status.

Self-pay sessions are not billed to insurance.

What are your session rates?

  • Standard session rate: $200 per hour

  • Same-day self-pay rate: $150 per hour

  • Self-pay packages are available

Sessions are available in 30, 60, 90, and 120-minute lengths.

Are tips expected?

No. Tips are neither expected nor required. Session rates reflect the full cost of care.

Do you provide relaxation-focused sessions?

Yes. Session focus may vary based on individual goals and needs. Some visits emphasize targeted therapeutic work, while others focus on broader support, comfort, and nervous-system regulation. All sessions are provided within the same clinically grounded framework.

Are sessions documented?

Yes. All sessions at Arctic Dawn are documented clinically, regardless of payer type. Documentation supports continuity of care and may be used for insurance billing or reimbursement purposes when applicable.

Do you work with personal injury or workers’ compensation cases?

Therapeutic manual therapy may be provided as part of an active personal injury or workers’ compensation claim when services are authorized as part of the case.

Billing procedures, documentation requirements, and payment timelines vary by claim and are coordinated on a case-by-case basis.

How far in advance should insurance questions be addressed?

If you plan to use insurance benefits or have questions related to billing or documentation, these should be discussed at least 24 hours in advance to allow time for benefit verification and coordination.

How do I know which session length to book?

Session length can be selected based on your goals, preferences, and needs. If you are unsure which option is appropriate, guidance can be provided prior to scheduling.
