Frequently Asked Questions

Scheduling & Planning

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?

No. Appointments may be scheduled without a referral.

Some insurance plans require a physician referral or prior authorization for coverage.

See the Insurance & Billing page for details.

How do I know which session length to book?

Sessions are available in:

  • 30 and 60 minutes for therapeutic care

  • 60, 75, 90, and 120 minutes for restorative sessions

Session length may depend on your goals, clinical needs, or insurance guidelines. If you are unsure, guidance can be provided prior to scheduling.

Learn more on the What to Expect page.

Do restorative sessions require extra time?

Restorative sessions include additional time for heat therapy, stillness, and transition to support nervous system recovery. Please allow a few extra minutes beyond the scheduled session length when planning your visit.

How far in advance should insurance questions be addressed?

If you plan to use insurance benefits or have billing questions, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance to allow time for benefit verification and coordination.

Insurance & Payment

Do you bill insurance?

Yes. Arctic Dawn submits insurance claims for qualifying therapeutic manual therapy services.

Visit the Insurance & Billing page for full details.

Can I choose self-pay if I have insurance?

Yes. You may choose to pay privately even if you have insurance coverage. When self-pay is selected, the session is not submitted to insurance and you are responsible for the full cost of care.

In cases involving auto injury claims, workers’ compensation, or physician-directed treatment plans, billing requirements may vary.

Are restorative sessions covered by insurance?

No. Restorative sessions are self-pay and are not billed to insurance.

What if insurance does not cover treatment?

Clients are responsible for deductibles, coinsurance, and any services not covered by their insurance plan.

Are tips expected?

No. Tips are neither expected nor required. Session rates reflect the full cost of professional care.

Comfort & First Visit

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing. You will be appropriately draped throughout the session, and only the area being treated will be uncovered. You may undress to your comfort level.

What if I am sensitive to pressure or touch?

Please share any sensitivities or preferences before and during your session. Pressure and pacing are adjusted to ensure comfort and safety.

Will therapeutic massage hurt?

Care is provided within your comfort tolerance. Pressure and pacing are adjusted based on tissue response and your feedback to ensure effective and respectful treatment.

Some areas of tension may feel sensitive, but treatment should not feel overwhelming or distressing. Open communication is encouraged throughout the session.

How soon will I feel relief?

Many clients notice improvement after their first session, while others experience gradual progress over several visits.

Relief may depend on the nature of your concern, how long symptoms have been present, and how your body responds to care. Therapeutic work often supports both immediate comfort and longer-term improvement.

Are restorative sessions different from therapeutic care?

Yes. Therapeutic sessions focus on pain relief, mobility, and functional improvement. Restorative sessions support nervous system recovery, deep relaxation, and stress decompression.

Is massage safe during pregnancy?

Massage may be appropriate during pregnancy with medical clearance when needed. Positioning is supported with pillows and bolstering to ensure comfort and safety.

If you have questions about pregnancy massage, please contact us prior to scheduling.
